Personal appearance is must for all applicants with prior appointment. To schedule an appointment with US Embassy / consulate process follows in 2 Phases -
 
Phase – 1
  1. Pay the Application Fee at designated branch of HDFC Bank (MRV)
  2. Schedule appointment on www.vfs-usa.co.in
Step 1: All nonimmigrant visa applicants except "Officials travelling on government business" and "Officials of international organisation travelling for official purpose" must pay the Application Fee and VFS Service Charge at a designated branch of HDFC bank before applying for a visa.
When going to HDFC Bank, please carry with you a photocopy of the 1st and Last page of the applicant's passport along with DD’s for VISA APPLICATION FEE (MRV Fee) US $131 payable in INR equivalent at consular exchange rate. 
Visa Application Fee at current exchange rate (Rs. 44/-) is Rs. 5,764/- payable in cash or by DD/HDFC Bank cheque favouring “US Embassy - Visa Fees” and Service Charge: Rs.322/- which includes VFS’ service charge Rs310/- & Bank service charge Rs12/- (inclusive of Service Tax @ 12% and Education Cess Tax @0.36%) This fee is payable in cash or by DD/HDFC Bank cheque favouring “HDFC Bank a/c VFS”.
**** DD’s issued by cooperative banks are not accepted
Step 2: Once the fees is paid the MRV receipt gets activated only after 2 working days from date of issue. Do not attempt to take an appointment till then. To schedule appointment with US Embassy / consulate long on to www.vfs-usa.co.in and click on the Apply for a Non-immigrant Visa  You will need to use the barcode number from your HDFC Bank Fee Receipt in order to schedule an appointment.
 
 
  • Before taking appointment online we suggest print the attached forms (DS156 / DS157) fill up in detailed with out leaving any thing blank. Which ever question is not related to your or not applicable please use “NA”.
  • Things to remember – Please remember to have details where are you going to stay in USA (ref Q24 / Q25 in DS156 as well Q8 in DS157), local host contact name, address, number.
  • Last 2 employers name, address, telephone number and date of employment (refer Q12 in DS157)
  •  Educational institutions attended, name, address / telephone number, course of study and date of attendance (ref Q17 in DS157)
Guidelines to schedule appointment online –  
Phase 2.
 
  1. To attend personal interview with the US Embassy or Consulate where your appointment for a visa interview is scheduled. You will need to carry the printed Appointment Letter, the Visa Application Forms, and other relevant documents the original HDFC Bank Fee Receipt with its two barcode stickers. Applications without an original HDFC Bank Receipt or with an incorrect photograph will NOT be accepted at the US embassy or Consulate.
 List of document for B1/B2 VISA – (BUSINESS / VISIT)
 
  1. Passport (valid for 6 months from the date of application)
  2. Visa form DS156 & DS157 (to be printed back to back only)
  3. 2 photo (50mm x 50mm light white or blue background)
  4. Invitation Letter from the counterpart indicating the purpose, duration of stay, mentioning which party is bearing the expenses of the trip. Invitation should mention the name and designation of the signatory
  5. Covering letter from the company on letterhead stating applicant’s name, designation, purpose and duration of visit
  6. Salary certificate / Slip for last 3 months
  7. BEP Letter as per embassy / Consulate prescribed format (only for companies registered under BEP with US Embassy / consulate)
Additional Documents suggested -
  1. IT papers 3 years
  2. Appointment letter
  3. Bank statement – 6 months
  4. Brief company profile, communication between Indian and US company
  5. Any other financial documents, like investments, property papers.
  6. Clear Xerox copy of all above document should be carried in separate folder.
